2017 STYLE ROOM BRIEF
‘Beautiful Small Spaces’ is the theme of the 2017 Style Rooms. Inspiring beautiful spaces that maximise a small room that is functional, designed and decorated for British lifestyle whether in the city, country or the suburbs - thinking about wall coverings, storage, and placement of furniture and items.
- Bloggers MUST only use products sourced from around the Festival
- The brief was open to bloggers’ interpretation, to create something that expresses their style and will appeal to their blog audiences
- Bloggers could decide to style the rooms as a bedroom, living room, drawing room, dining room, family room, study or a garden room
- The Style Rooms could feature current trends e.g. tropical, copper, blush pinks, or the bloggers can look beyond what’s currently on the market and define future trends themselves
THE PINK HOUSE
THE HOME HOTEL - This is a beautiful small space living room designed to behave like a bar. As a parent, it can be hard to get out as much as you used to, so if you can’t get to that trendy bar or swanky hotel, why not create a glamorous space where the minibar can come to you! This room will have all the luxury of a beautifully designed boutique hotel room, with the attitude of a cool members club.
BLUE LAYERS BEDROOM:
'I wanted to create a really warm, inviting and accessible space for visitors to see and gain inspiration from the exhibitors. I love blue, it is my favourite colour so that was a natural choice for me and I think small rooms are great when painted darker colours, which may go against what more traditionalist thinking. It creates a cosy space and often removes the obvious ‘lines’ of the room making it harder to make out the actual size or where the room begins and ends.
In my option it's a neutral too, navy blue goes with everything! And a strong navy base will create the perfect platform to play around with materials and textures. This room really reflects my current style and personality.
This bedroom is layered with lots of different blues and they come together with a mixture of beautiful natural materials such as the wooden bed and rattan chest. Finished off with touches of brass and gold for an elegant and glamorous touch. And of course no room is complete these days with out some plants!
The bed we chose was also a great space saving solution as it has built in side tables, together with the deep rattan chest there is great storage in this small room.
This room is layered but both glamorous and informal as a bedroom should be, with the mixed use of materials and complementary colours it all comes together and transcends a variety of different styles and i’ve shown how space should not limit aesthetics.
THE KITCHEN TABLE - The heart of the modern home, the hardworking kitchen table is the centre piece to our design for this beautiful space. Performing multifunctions for family life, the kitchen table transforms from office desk, to children's playtime, to artists studio to bakers work station to entertaining space and that can be just in the space of one day in so many modern homes.
Setting out to make this hardworking space both functional and beautiful we were inspired by the new arts and crafts movement. This modern take has 2LG's own added decorative flair. With natural materials, the star being the finely crafted bare wood furniture, leading the pared back design and giving it this muted colour palette of pinks and greens. Decorative joy comes from the hand printed wallpaper based on fragmented floral motifs from 2LG's new Forest hill Collection, of papers and textiles, designed and made in collaboration with award winning studio, Custhom. With panelling on the walls to give an elegant base, dedicated storage for various tasks and plants for added homeliness. Beauty and function combine in a nature inspired living/dining experience that transforms for your needs.
