We are Liz and Adolfo, founders of UK based Inka Fabric.
Our mission is to share the extraordinary Peruvian heritage through the traditional means of textiles; an indigenous custom that has survived for hundreds of years and been passed down from generation to generation.
our products are handmade and manufactured in Peru, as an Anglo-Peruvian business we believe this to be one of our strengths. Our products celebrate and support the traditions, cultures, and economies of Peru which is itself the reason for their high-quality and uniqueness. It would not be sustainable and therefore would be against our ethos to use alpaca fibre or make alpaca products anywhere else other than in its natural home of the Peruvian Andes. The fibre of a Peruvian alpaca and the weaving of an Andean rug is superior in quality and the local knowledge and expertise of breeding the alpaca, the process of the fibres and the manufacturing of the products is not only a tradition that needs sustaining in a rapidly globalizing world but also an expertise that must be respected. This is of particular importance to us as the popularity of alpaca fibre and products continues to rapidly increase across the world.
By sharing these stories, knowledge and products in the UK we can not only ensure they are enjoyed by all but also support a second economy here in the UK. For us Inka Fabric is not just a business, it is not simply selling a rug or scarf. We want to ensure we are offering unique products that our customers value and can see and appreciate the craftsmanship of the artisans we know and understand the story and values behind each piece.
In order to find the finest of fibre and handmade textiles by the best artisans and manufacturers in Peru we travel frequently to the country and work directly with them to ensure Fairtrade. We have direct links with artisans across the Andes of Peru from whom we purchase the frazadas and have our own small family team based in Lima where we design and create our cushions.
In terms of our alpaca products we work directly with reputable manufacturers in Arequipa, the Alpaca heartland of Peru, that have national accreditations, a longstanding reputation and support various national associations. This enables us to know the direct source of the alpaca fibre used in each and every one of our products, ensure its sustainable and ethical process and guarantee the highest of qualities.
This gives us the confidence to offer our customers products that are not only sustainable and affordable but are high-quality, unique and certainly cannot be found on the high street! We don't just sell fabrics, we sell individuality and preserve tradition.
